“Of course, I am ready to discuss with you the nuances on this issue, and I hope that you will acquaint me with your position, the position of the European partners,” Putin said.
The Russian leader added that he was ready to present to his interlocutor the details of Moscow's proposals.
Orban, in turn, thanked Putin for the reception and noted that “this meeting is more special than the previous one.”
«I would like to use this opportunity to discuss a number of important issues with you. I would like to know your position on issues that are important for Europe. <…> The number of countries that can talk to both other parties to the conflict (in Ukraine — editor's note). Soon Hungary will apparently become the only country in Europe that will be able to talk to everyone,» the Prime Minister said.
Speaking about bilateral relations, Putin noted that there was a 35 percent decline in trade between Russia and Hungary.
“In general, there is something to work on, we have solid projects underway,” he added.
As Orban’s press secretary Bertalan Havasi reported, the prime minister arrived in Moscow as part of a “peace mission.”
On July 1, Hungary's six-month presidency of the EU Council began. The next day, Orban visited Kyiv for the first time in 12 years, where he met with Vladimir Zelensky.
The Hungarian Prime Minister reported that he asked Kyiv to consider the possibility of a ceasefire to begin negotiations. In turn, the deputy head of the office of the President of Ukraine, Igor Zhovkva, said that Kyiv will seek to resolve the conflict by other methods.
Orban emphasized that the issue of peace will be the main one during the Hungarian presidency of the Council of the European Union.
