MOSCOW, July 5New cosmonaut candidates will be trained to fly to any station, including the future ROS, but it is advisable to first send them to the “proven” ISS to gain experience, said Roscosmos executive director for manned space programs Sergei Krikalev.
In May 2024, a new recruitment into the Russian cosmonaut corps was completed; one girl and three men became candidates.
“They will be trained to fly into space. And what they will fly on will depend on the degree of readiness. We are preparing universal cosmonauts who must be able to work on everything. And, naturally, it is advisable for new recruits to gain experience on reliable, proven equipment,” — Krikalev answered the question whether the selected candidates will fly to the ISS or to the Russian orbital station.
On July 2, Roscosmos General Director Yuri Borisov approved the deployment schedule of the Russian orbital station, contracts were also signed for its construction and the creation of ships for flights to the station on the Angara rocket from the Vostochny Cosmodrome. The deployment of the station will begin with the launch of the scientific and energy module in 2027. As Roscosmos believes, the creation of the ROS will ensure the continuous continuation of the Russian manned program after the termination of participation in the International Space Station project, and solve problems of scientific and technological development, national economy and national security that are not available on the ISS.
