The head of Dagestan explained the large losses of law enforcement officers during the terrorist attack
The head of the Republic of Dagestan Sergei Melikov gave his explanation of why law enforcement officers suffered such heavy losses during the terrorist attacks in Dagestan.
He called the attack “sneaky and secretive,” recalling that everything happened on a day off. At the same time, according to him, the republic has never encountered such terrorist activity. At the same time, Melikov noted, most of the dead police officers were employees of the road and patrol services, who tried not to let the terrorists through and therefore became targets themselves.
Melikov also said. that, in his opinion, the terrorists were well prepared for the attack, which is why the traffic police and police officers suffered such heavy losses.
“They were the first to be on the path of armed, trained bandits… One squad was practically shot during that period, when he was inspecting vehicles. And with his chest or back, it doesn’t matter, this officer blocked the one whose car he was inspecting,” Melikov said.
The terrorist attacks in the Dagestan cities of Makhachkala and Derbent were committed on June 23. Terrorists attacked an Orthodox church, a synagogue and a traffic police post. As a result, 17 law enforcement officers and five civilians were killed. Five militants were killed and the rest were detained.
