The Insider website crashed after the publication of a text about the influence operations of the Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) in the West.
The Cloudflare service that provides protection against DDoS attacks, which The Insider probably uses, periodically shows a cached version of the site instead of the real one, or the site does not open at all.
“Two billion requests at the same time is 20 times larger than before. We are lying down, fighting back, and then we are going to publish this investigation everywhere again,” Timur Olevsky, editor of The Insider, told Mediazona.
The text about the SVR’s “information war” projects with the West was published on the publication’s website the night before, 4th of July. The article is now available in the web archive. Journalists studied the leaked correspondence of SVR employees Mikhail Kolesov and Mikhail Kulemin. Among other things, The Insider found out that they planned a campaign to discredit “one of the FBK sponsors” who left for the USA for 300 thousand dollars.
