The live premiere of the Japanese brand's coupe will take place in a few days as part of the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The new product will go on sale on the old world market in 2025.
The Honda Prelude coupe was present in the brand's model line from 1978 to 2001. At the same time, the fifth-generation two-door debuted back in 1996, and underwent restyling in 1999. Plans for the return of the sports car were discussed last fall: then Honda presented a concept called Prelude at the Japan Mobility exhibition, which was held in Tokyo. The manufacturer noted that this is a pre-production prototype that will form the basis for the commercial version of the brand's new model.

Now the Japanese have shown in detail the exterior of the sports coupe, which received a revived name. The company said that this new product will enter the European market in 2025. It is expected that Prelude will subsequently join the brand's American lineup, but Honda has not yet officially confirmed this. In the latest photos, a two-door with a red body preparing for its debut (last year's prototype was white) is adjacent to the original Prelude coupe, which was produced between 1979 and 1982. The dimensions of the new product have not yet been announced, but it is obvious that it will be noticeably larger compared to its distant predecessor: its length is 4090 mm, width – 1635 mm, and height – 1290 mm.
There is no official information about the technology of the new product yet (except that it will be hybrid). According to preliminary data, its role can be played by the e-HEV power unit, which is equipped with the current hybrid Civic. Let us remember that it is based on a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated engine with direct fuel injection, working in tandem with two electric motors (one of them acts as a generator). The total output of the system for the American version of the model is 203 hp, and the maximum torque is 315 Nm.
According to chief engineer and project manager Tomoyuki Yamagami, cited by the British publication Autoexpress, Honda does not plan to release “ a charged» version of the Prelude coupe with a more powerful «filling», other settings and the addition of Type R to the name.

The company has not yet disclosed the prices for the future two-door car. According to preliminary data, the starting price of the new Honda Prelude coupe in the UK will vary from 35 to 40 thousand pounds sterling (equivalent to approximately 3.9 — 4.5 million rubles at the current exchange rate).

Meanwhile, at the end of last month, the Japanese brought to the market a new compact van Honda Freed. As Kolesa.ru reported earlier, this model has a more solid design, and a cross-version has also appeared. Buyers are offered either a purely gasoline version or a hybrid; in both cases, all-wheel drive is provided. The starting price on the domestic market is 2,508,000 yen (about 1.37 million rubles).
