CHISINAU, July 8 Federation of Transport Operators of Romania (FORT) stated that the country's authorities should oppose the decision of the European Commission, which prohibits stopping Ukrainian carriers both at the border and while driving.
As the federation stated, the European Commission decided that “Ukrainian carriers can no longer be stopped either at customs or in traffic.” FORT representatives claim that “this approach is not accepted in Romania and represents a red line that no one should cross.”
«»The responsible authorities, the government and the central authorities must clearly oppose the European Commission, categorically refusing to apply this new agreement, without trying to deceive Romanian carriers once again. This approach of the EC seriously violates the Constitution of Romania, at least in terms of «protecting national interests in economic , financial and foreign exchange activities,» the federation said in a statement released to the media.
In particular, transport operators are threatening to return to protests at the country's borders.
«»This agreement signed by the EU with Ukraine states that the competent authorities of each party will take action only if Ukrainian drivers have committed “repeated and systematically serious violations of traffic rules related to road safety, such as driving while intoxicated, speeding, driving under the influence of exposure to narcotic drugs or other substances of similar effect, as well as an accident resulting in death or serious bodily injury,” the press release says.
FORT representatives said that they are waiting for the public position of all public organizations representing the interests of victims of road accidents or fighting for road safety, fair competition, and so on.
