Russia to Develop Biometric Marriage Service

MOSCOW, July 8 Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Grigorenko instructed the Ministry of Justice, together with the Ministry of Digital Development, the Federal Tax Service (FTS) of Russia and the Center for Biometric Technologies (CBT) to develop a service to conclude a marriage using biometrics, without presenting documents, the Deputy Prime Minister’s Office reported.
«»Deputy Prime Minister — Chief of Staff of the Government of Russia Dmitry Grigorenko instructed the Ministry of Justice, together with the Ministry of Digital Development, the Federal Tax Service of Russia and the Center for Biometric Technologies, to develop a service that will allow receiving biometric services from civil registry offices, including entering into marriage without presenting documents,» — the message says.
They noted that the order provides for the development of a road map, which will detail the stages of implementation of the service, as well as the timing of its launch.

In turn, the state Unified Biometric System will be used to confirm identity during civil registration. Its users will be able to receive a number of services from the civil registry office without documents. These include marriage, name change, and establishment of paternity.

So, after the launch of the service, citizens will have two ways to receive the services of the civil registry office — using identity documents or biometrics.
