The new SUV of the French brand is expected to appear in 2027. It could be based on the Smart Car platform (the current Citroen C3 for Europe is based on it).
The current Citroën C4 debuted in 2020 in a cross-liftback body; the model has versions with both internal combustion engines and all-electric technology. According to a report by Jato Dynamics, at the end of last year, Europeans bought 59,696 copies, which is 5% less than in 2022. Moreover, in the first five months of this year, 27,396 units were registered here, which is 4% more than in January-May 2023.

Now the French company, which belongs to the auto giant Stellantis, is developing the next generation C4. The British Autocar reports on what this new product will be like, citing the head of the Citroën design department, Pierre Leclercq. According to him, the manufacturer intends to «release a car on the road that is very similar to the Oli.»

We are talking about the unusual and very bold Citroën Oli concept, which debuted at the end of September 2022. The show car is a light electric pickup-transformer, created for the «era of frugality.» As Kolesa.ru reported earlier, it is positioned as a family car for daily use, which at the same time has an unlimited service life.
The Oli features a bonnet and roof made from durable composite panels with a recycled cardboard core – they are very light and can withstand the weight of an adult. The pickup, whose curb weight is only 1,000 kg, is equipped with a traction battery with a capacity of 40 kWh, and its range on a single charge is 400 km.

It is worth noting that some features of the Oli concept have already been received by the new Citroën C3, addressed to the European market (the cross-hatchback was presented in October 2023), as well as the local C3 Aircross, which debuted in the second half of last month. Probably, the future next-generation C4 SUV will also receive a similar design for bumpers, radiator grille, LED headlights and, of course, oval brand logos.

According to Pierre Leclerc, the upcoming new product should be functional and innovative, while such a crossover will be sold at a price affordable “for everyone.” It is expected that the new C4 will continue to be offered in the cross-liftback format or will move into the segment of coupe SUVs.
The premiere of the new Citroën C4 will most likely take place in 2027. It is expected that this SUV will be based on the Smart Car platform owned by Stellantis. The already mentioned C3 and C3 Aircross for Europe, as well as the Opel Frontera crossover that recently went on sale, are also based on it. It is possible that the new product will share equipment with relatives. It’s too early to talk about prices.
