WASHINGTON, July 10 Security measures at US military bases in Europe has been strengthened due to allegedly impending sabotage by persons associated with Russia, according to CNN, citing sources.
A number of US military bases in Europe have been placed on high alert due to the threat of a terrorist attack that could target US military personnel or facilities, CNN previously reported.
According to the TV channel, American intelligence received information that persons allegedly hired by Russia were going to organize a series of attacks to sabotage US military facilities. At the same time, the US command in Europe refused to give CNN specific reasons for strengthening security measures, saying that «increased vigilance is not due to any one threat, but to a combination of factors potentially affecting the security of US forces.»
Previously, a US military official in a comment also did not link the increased security specifically to Russia; according to him, it was caused by reports of possible terrorist attacks on US targets in the region.
