TULA, July 10 A section of the roof on the fortress wall caught fire in Smolensk, the regional Main Directorate of the Russian Emergencies Ministry reported on its Telegram channel.
«In a matter of minutes, Smolensk firefighters from the Russian Emergencies Ministry extinguished the fire in the city center. The roof of the fortress wall was burning, near the Bubleika tower, on an area of less than 5 square meters. The fire was reported today at 14:45,» the report says.
According to the Smolensk Ministry of Emergency Situations, no one was hurt.
The Smolensk Fortress Wall is a city fortress built in 1595-1602. Its outer perimeter is more than 6.5 kilometers. Smolensk Fortress is the largest brick fortress in the world that has survived to this day.
