The new MG SUV is presented both with an internal combustion engine and as a rechargeable hybrid. In some places prices have already been announced.
The HS crossover in the range of the once British brand MG (today the brand belongs to the Chinese concern SAIC) appeared in 2018. Two years later, a restyled version debuted in the Middle Kingdom — this time as the MG Pilot, although such an SUV continued to be exported under its native name. And today the premiere of the second generation SUV took place, it was held at the Festival of Speed in the British Goodwood. And if the predecessor is quite an original model, then they didn’t bother with the “second” MG HS: it is a clone of the more or less recent “Chinese” Roewe RX5 (the Roewe brand is also owned by SAIC). By the way, the MG emblem has long been worn by other cars of the “celestial” brand.

Externally, the second-generation HS crossover differs from its donor in the design of the front end, and only slightly: the five-door MG got the original radiator grille, plus the bumper was retouched. The length of the SUV is 4655 mm (although, for example, the French MG office reports 4670 mm), the wheelbase is 2765 mm. For comparison, the indicators of the restyled first-generation MG HS are 4610 and 2720 mm, respectively. The declared volume of the trunk of the new model is 507 liters against 463 liters of its predecessor.

The interior for the MG HS has also been slightly redesigned, with a slightly different front panel and central tunnel. The scoreboard was left, but it consists of two displays, whereas the Roewe RX5 has a single giant screen. In addition, on the MG model this display does not seem to move (yes, on the Roewe RX5 the display can be moved along the panel — from the driver to the passenger). The list of HS equipment also includes wireless charging for a smartphone, all-round cameras, adaptive cruise control, auto braking systems (with cyclist and pedestrian detection), lane keeping and blind spot monitoring.

Like the previous MG HS, the new generation SUV will be available in two versions. The first is purely petrol, it has a 1.5 turbo engine (170 hp), which is paired with a six-speed manual or seven-speed robotic gearbox. The second version is a rechargeable hybrid, such a crossover in some countries is called MG EHS. The installation includes a 1.5T, an electric motor and a battery with a capacity of 24.7 kWh. The pan-European office of the brand did not disclose the total output at the time of publication of the news; the French office claims that the hybrid can produce 339 hp. In any case, the drive is only front-wheel drive. Note that in some places in Europe an exclusively hybrid crossover will be available.

Some “old world” dealers are already accepting orders for the new MG HS. For example, in the UK, a “traditional” SUV costs from 24,995 pounds (about 2.8 million rubles at the current rate), a rechargeable hybrid there will cost at least 31,495 pounds (3.5 million rubles). The new product will be delivered to the British in July, with a full-scale entry into the European market scheduled for autumn.

Meanwhile, MG HS will appear in Russia. However, a pre-reform crossover of the first generation is expected to be brought to us.
