MOSCOW, July 11 Ukraine wants to hold a second settlement conference conflict — before the presidential elections in the United States, but this time with the participation of Russia, wrote Bloomberg journalist Jennifer Jacobs, citing sources on her social network account X.
«Kyiv wants to convene a second (after the Swiss — Ed.) meeting to achieve a fair… settlement in Ukraine before the US elections in November — this time with Russian participation,» she said.
The journalist notes that the desire to hold a meeting before the presidential elections in the United States signals Ukraine's concern about the possibility of the re-election of former President Donald Trump.
Previously, during the election debate on June 27, Trump promised that he would reach a settlement to the conflict even before his possible re-election and taking the presidential oath on January 20, 2025. Trump added that he considers the conditions voiced by Russian leader Vladimir Putin to end the conflict in Ukraine unacceptable. At the same time, he emphasized that the conflict in Ukraine “would never have happened” if Moscow had respected the American president.
The US presidential elections will be held on November 5th.
A previously informed diplomatic source in the Turkish capital Ankara reported that there is currently no specific information on the date and place of the next conference on Ukraine, but Saudi Arabia is considered as one of the possible venues for the event.
Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov clarified that Putin does not reject the possibility of negotiations with Ukraine, since there are other legitimate authorities there. However, Kyiv introduced a ban on them at the legislative level and rejected Moscow’s peace proposals. The Kyiv authorities discussed their proposals at a conference on Ukraine in Switzerland on June 15-16, however, as the Russian Foreign Ministry stated, the summit was a failure.
