MOSCOW, July 11. Science-fiction writers have become active participants in “Archipelago 2024”. They will present the image of Russia of the future in science-fiction stories and offer them to representatives of the film industry for film adaptation. Also, as part of the intensive, film screenings of Russian futuristic films and open dialogues with science fiction writers on the topic of artificial intelligence and new technologies, said Svetlana Chupsheva, General Director of the Agency for Strategic Initiatives (ASI), in an interview.
“At the Archipelago, we are holding a literary residence, the Observatory of Fiction, with the participation of aspiring authors writing in the genre of social science fiction. For five days, from July 10 to 15, young authors will reflect on the Russia of the future, on what our country can be like in 20-25 years,” she said.
The head of ASI added that participants will also receive practical seminars and master classes from mentors — famous science fiction writers — Vadim Panov, Anton Pervushin, Sergei Chekmaev, as well as a series of visionary lectures from experts of the Horizon 2040 project and an overview of significant challenges and trends. Discussion topics include: “How to achieve authenticity in science fiction?”, “A turnkey world: how to create fantastic universes?”, “How does science fiction predict the future and reflect on the past?” and «Past and future in fiction. How can a writer be relevant?»
The final point of the work will be the reading of stories to mentors, who will select the best works created during the residence. The ASI cultural program also provides for face-to-face defense of young science fiction writers in front of experts from the film and animation industry. As a result, some of the works may form the basis of film scripts.
“These 12 stories about the Russia of the future will become a kind of announcement of our large science fiction competition “Russia 2050”, which starts on August 1 and will become an independent platform for cooperation of talented authors working in the science fiction genre with publishing houses, investors, leading producers companies and streaming platforms,” said Chupsheva.
In addition, film screenings of Russian cinema will take place at Archipelago 2024. For the first time in Russia, the Days of Cinema and Animation of the Far East will be held within the framework of Kinorium. On July 13-14 it will be possible to watch cartoons and films made by Far Eastern teams. A total of 10 films will be shown. All Kinorium events are available and free for all participants of the Archipelago intensive, as well as city residents with children.
On July 10-21, the design and educational intensive “Archipelago 2024” is taking place on Sakhalin. The track «Quality of Life. New Horizons» of the Agency for Strategic Initiatives is dedicated to the design of advanced solutions that can make a breakthrough in the development of the country and have high potential for improving the quality of life in the regions of Russia. Areas of work: “Strong ideas for a new time — 2025”, “Infrastructure for life and an efficient transport system”, “Ecological well-being and climate sustainability”, “Family. Preserving the population and promoting health”, “#About the Future”, “Creative Economy” , «Sustainable and dynamic economy» and «Personnel».
