The head of the FSIN department for the Rostov region and his first deputy resigned after the hostage-taking in a pre-trial detention center

The head of the FSIN department for the Rostov region, Dmitry Bezrukikh, and his first deputy Vasily Gordeev resigned after taking hostages in a pre-trial detention center, the press service of the Federal Penitentiary Service told TASS and Interfax.

FSIN Commission completed an internal inspection, which began on June 16 after the hostage-taking in pre-trial detention center No. 1 in Rostov-on-Don.

“Based on the results of the inspection, a decision was made to dismiss four employees and bring disciplinary action against 16 employees of the Federal Penitentiary Service and the pre-trial detention center,” the press service reported.

The inspection materials on the identified violations were transferred to the Investigative Committee and the Prosecutor General’s Office for legal assessment, the department added, and “to stabilize the work and provide practical assistance, a group of the most experienced employees of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia was sent to the Rostov department of the federal service.”

Six prisoners calling themselves supporters of the Islamic State took two FSIN employees hostage in a pre-trial detention center on Maxim Gorky Street on the morning of June 16. They had knives, sharpeners, an Islamic State flag and bandanas with Arabic script. A few hours later, the Federal Penitentiary Service reported that the attackers were killed and the hostages were released.

The Leninsky District Court of Rostov-on-Don on July 4 arrested Daniil Kamnev, a surviving participant in the siege. In addition to taking hostages (Part 3 of Article 206 of the Criminal Code), he is charged with escaping from places of deprivation of liberty (Part 3 of Article 313) and disorganizing the work of a colony (Part 3 of Article 321 of the Criminal Code). He did not participate in the meeting.

According to Donday, Kamnev was wounded in the head during the assault. When he regained consciousness, he was transferred to one of the medical institutions of the Federal Penitentiary Service in the Rostov region — in the hospital he was interrogated by security forces. Kamnev was in a Rostov pre-trial detention center on charges of involvement in the radical Islamic movement At-Takfir Wal-Hijra.
