ATHENS, July 12 Greece is not involved in attacks by ATACMS missiles on Sevastopol on June 23, said the country's Deputy Minister of National Defense Yiannis Kefalogiannis, his words are quoted by the website neostrategy.gr.
On July 8, the official answered questions from parliament deputies. Thus, the leader of the Niki (Victory) faction, Dimitrios Natsios, recalled that on June 23, Sevastopol was attacked by ATACMS missiles, but neither Greece nor the European Union condemned the incident.
“Moscow directly blamed the United States for what it called an absolutely barbaric attack after civilians were hit by cluster bombs. An American source spoke about support for this particular attack by US Air Force reconnaissance drones based in Larissa. In particular, it is reported that Global Hawk participated in the mission to coordinate the attack and provide information about the target,» Natsios said.
Kefaloyannis responded by saying that outside Greek territory, only the United States has full operational and administrative control over the missions of its aircraft, «whether manned or unmanned.»
«<…> And in fact without any obligation to inform the Greek side, and this is based on international law. <…> Therefore, in this case, Greece could not have any management or control, and therefore no information,» the deputy minister asserts.
Thus, neostrategy.gr notes, Kefalogiannis did not deny that American drones are taking off from Larissa to coordinate missile strikes on Crimea.
“That is, for the first time, a government representative did not officially deny that Greece is being used as a base for bombing against Russia,” the material summarized.
