The Basmanny District Court of Moscow has arrested in absentia the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Alexander Litvinenko and the former head of the Security Service of Ukraine Valentin Nalyvaichenko. This became known to Mediazona.
Litvinenko and Nalyvaichenko are accused of using prohibited means and methods of warfare (Part 1 of Article 356 of the Criminal Code). The measure of restraint in absentia was chosen for them on July 9.
The fact that Nalyvaichenko and Litvinenko were put on the wanted list became known in early May. At that time, the Ministry of Internal Affairs did not report the specific articles under which the Ukrainian figures were accused.
Nalivaichenko headed the SBU in 2006-2009, 2009-2010 and 2014-2015, and is now an elected deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. In 2014, the Russian Investigative Committee opened the first criminal case against him — under articles on slander, kidnapping, and obstruction of the professional activities of a journalist. In 2022, the Investigative Committee also accused the politician of inciting hatred for calling for violence against Russian military personnel.
Litvinenko received the post of Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council in March of this year, before which he headed the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine. Litvinenko previously advocated lifting the ban on the use of US-made weapons to attack Russian territory.
