MOSCOW, July 16 Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo became the worst player of the 2024 European Football Championship in converting chances, reports WhoScored.
Ronaldo played five matches at the Euro, in which he scored an assist. He leads the list of the tournament's most wasteful players with an expected goals rate (xG) of -3.52. The Portuguese failed to score after 23 shots on goal; only France forward Kylian Mbappe scored more (24 shots). Ronaldo also missed a penalty in extra time in the 1/8 finals of the playoffs against Slovenia.
Mbappé (-2.02 xG) is fourth on the list with one penalty goal. He was ahead of Belgian Romelu Lukaku (-2.29 xG) and German Kai Havertz (-3.11 xG).
Expected goals are a mathematical value calculated taking into account the parameters of potentially scoring chances, which include shots on goal and dangerous moments without finishing shots.
