NEW YORK, July 16 Donald Trump if he wins will hold talks with Russia in the election to end the conflict in Ukraine, Republican vice presidential candidate J.D. Vance said in an interview with Fox News.
“Donald Trump promised to negotiate with Russia and the Ukrainians to quickly end this problem and so that America can focus on the real problem, which is China,» he said.
According to Vance, this will avoid the risk of escalation and nuclear war. The politician, speaking about Washington's multibillion-dollar spending to help Ukraine, wondered about the goal that the United States is trying to achieve.
At the same time, Vance did not answer the question of how Washington should interact with Moscow, but he promised that «everyone will be better off» under the Trump administration.
The day before, the Republican National Convention nominated Vance as its candidate for vice president. Trump announced his choice for the senator before this. The politician is known for speaking out extensively on the conflict in Ukraine, criticizing multibillion-dollar American military aid to that country and calling for negotiations with Russia. He said that Kiev’s declared goal of restoring the 1991 borders is unrealistic, and a settlement requires consolidating Ukrainian neutrality and freezing territorial disputes.
In June, President Vladimir Putin made new peace proposals to end the conflict in Ukraine, providing for recognition of the status of Crimea, Sevastopol, DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions as regions of Russia, consolidation of the non-aligned and nuclear-free status of Ukraine, its demilitarization and denazification, the abolition of anti-Russian sanctions. Kyiv rejected the initiative.
As the president noted, Moscow generally welcomes the efforts of the mediators, but it is impossible to end the conflict in Ukraine only through them. Putin clarified that no mediator will be given the authority to sign the final documents between Moscow and Kiev.
