MOSCOW, July 16 A new powerful flare on the Sun has surpassed in power all the explosions that occurred on the star this summer, said Sergei, head of the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy at the Institute of Space Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Bogachev.
“The second flare of the highest level X was registered on the Sun in two days. The event was assigned a score of X1.9. The flare is approximately four times weaker than the record event in this cycle — the X8.7 flare that occurred on May 14, but nevertheless became so far the largest event on the Sun for the entire summer period,” said the agency’s interlocutor.
He clarified that solar activity began to increase noticeably around July 12. Over the past four days, there have been more than ten M-level flares (the fourth most powerful level of solar event power on a scale of five), as well as two top X-level flares (including today's).
First the outbreak reached level X1.2 on July 14. The maximum force of the explosion today was recorded at about 16:30 Moscow time.
Bogachev added that the consequences of explosive events on the Sun will apparently be observed until the end of the day. There is no data yet on the ejections of solar masses towards the Earth, but the location of the explosive center does not exclude such a possibility.
