MOSCOW, July 17. At the design and educational intensive «Archipelago» in the Sakhalin region, a software and hardware complex (SHC) with artificial intelligence for drones was presented, which allows you to count and determine the location of various objects, instantly transmitting data to a ground station, the NTI press service reports.
It is noted that in this way the solution eliminates the need to review captured photo and video materials manually. 
Object identification solution developed by GC «WessoLink» consists of hardware installed on board and specialized software. It can be equipped with drones of any type, except for light small-sized drones, the weight of the device is about 1 kilogram. It has small dimensions (130x125x65 millimeters) and energy consumption.
«This is a computer of the smallest possible dimensions, which is installed on a UAV and connected to external data sources, such as a video camera or a thermal imaging camera. The PAK constantly monitors the correct operation of the suspended equipment and is trained to recognize certain objects, searching for them. For example, we used this method to count seals and schools of fish in the White Sea and Sakhalin,» the press service quotes Alexey Nikitenko, CEO of AeroLink LLC (part of VessoLink Group).
During the flight, the drone independently searches for the required object, determines its coordinates and produces statistics that the customer requires, as well as photos or videos. 
“If there is a communication channel, the drone can immediately transmit information to a ground station, or save the data and then issue it when communication is resumed or landing. This eliminates the need to review all the footage, since the customer of the service immediately receives the final result,” the expert explained.
According to him, the drone can search for any objects on which the neural network has been trained. In addition to recording wild animals, it can be used, for example, in search and rescue operations, protecting territories, or locating the location of broken power lines to promptly send a repair team to the site.
«Archipelago» is an annual design and educational intensive for representatives of technology companies and startups, engineering teams, management teams of regions and universities, representatives of scientific organizations that develop projects in the field of new technologies. In 2024, “Archipelago” will take place in the Sakhalin region from July 8 to July 21. The main venues for the event were the city of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk and the Pushisty airfield.
The organizers of the intensive are the Platform of the National Technology Initiative (NTI), the Government of the Sakhalin Region, the Agency for Strategic Initiatives (ASI), the NTI Project Support Fund and the University 2035.
