The refreshed crossover of the German brand is expected to reach dealers in the European market in the second half of next year.
Mercedes-Benz began producing this crossover in 1997: it was originally called the M-Class, and in 2015 it was renamed GLE. The current model debuted in 2018, and the following year the family was expanded with a modification with a coupe-like body and the addition of Coupe. These cars also have versions prepared by the AMG division. All these crossovers underwent a planned restyling at the beginning of February last year. Despite this, the manufacturer is already preparing a new batch of updates for the GLE.
In the photo: a prototype of the updated Mercedes-Benz GLE
Previously, a prototype of the refreshed model had already been driven on camera: those pictures formed the basis for renderings created by the designer Kolesa.ru, which demonstrate the potential appearance of the future new product. Now undergoing road tests and partially camouflaged, the car was again caught by spy photographers, and this time it was possible to see the interior of the crossover of the German brand. Colleagues from the Spanish publication Motor.es shared the pictures with us.
Judging by the photo, the crossover will receive a refreshed interior with a revised front panel, which houses new large screens. Most likely, these are three displays interconnected and occupying, in fact, the entire width of the panel — this is the so-called MBUX Superscreen system. In front of the driver there is a virtual instrument panel, and in the center is a touchscreen of the proprietary infotainment system. On the right, most likely, there is a separate screen for the front passenger.
The prototype was probably based on the top version of the updated Mercedes-Benz GLE. The pictures show that the system will have a different interface with more modern graphics. It is expected that simpler versions will have a pair of separate 10.25-inch displays on the front panel (digital instrumentation and multimedia touch screen only). We also note that the steering wheel spokes of the car in the photo are designed differently.

Most likely, the next update will not affect the model’s technology. In this case, the GLE line-up will continue to have petrol and diesel engines, operating as part of an MHEV setup in tandem with a 48-volt starter-generator integrated into the nine-speed 9G-Tronic automatic transmission. Rechargeable hybrid options will also remain (total power – either 333 or 381 hp). It is possible that the SUV will receive a different battery; the maximum range when driving on electric power in this case can increase to 150 km.
It is expected that the refreshed crossover of the German brand will reach dealers in the European market in the second half of next year. Prices will be known later, most likely they will increase. Today in Germany the starting price of the current Mercedes-Benz GLE crossover is 87,435 euros (equivalent to approximately 8.4 million rubles at the current exchange rate), and for the top-end version of the Mercedes-AMG GLE they are asking for at least 167,278 euros (about 16.1 million rubles).
Recall that it recently became known that Mercedes-Benz has revised its plans for active “greening” of the model range. As a result, the company decided to spend heavily on modernizing the internal combustion engine, as well as restyling the S-Class.
