In Lvov, an attempt was made on the life of philologist and ex-deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine from the nationalist party “Svoboda” Irina Farion. Espreso channel journalist Marta Oliyarnik reported this on her Facebook page.
“There was a shot in the temple. The shooter was seen by neighbors, he was wearing gloves and the weapon was without a silencer,” Olijarnik wrote.
According to the journalist, the assassination attempt took place on Masaryk Street. Ukrainian publications write that a 20-25 year old man shot at Farion. According to the telegram channel “Speak Great Lviv”, the victim is in critical condition.
Lviv regional police announced an operation to capture the shooter. It “involves employees of all services and divisions of the Lviv region police.”
Irina Farion — Doctor of Philology, was a deputy of the Verkhovna Rada in 2012-2014. She advocates a complete abandonment of the use of the Russian language in Ukraine. In November last year, a criminal case was opened against Farion in Ukraine under four articles.
Two events became the reason for the persecution. In an interview released on November 4, Farion said that she does not consider those who speak Russian rather than Ukrainian, including Russian-speaking military personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, to be Ukrainians.
A few days later, she posted on Telegram a screenshot of an email from a first-year student from annexed Crimea in her support, on which the author’s name was visible.
The student’s letter ended with the words: “I know that Ukraine will defeat rush. I know, Mova will triumph over language«. Employees of the Center for Combating Extremism of the Ministry of Internal Affairs soon detained him, and the telegram channel of blogger-informer Alexander Talipov “Crimean Smersh” posted a video with the freshman’s apology.
