MOSCOW, July 19 Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) appointed an ethics and disciplinary inspector to review possible violations of disciplinary regulations by football players of the Spanish national team, according to the UEFA website.
Earlier, the Gibraltar Football Association (GFA) filed a complaint with UEFA regarding the provocative celebration of the victory in the European Championship by Spanish players. As the Marca newspaper reported, during street celebrations the Spaniards repeatedly chanted the slogan “Gibraltar is Spain.” Gibraltar is a British overseas territory in the south of the Iberian Peninsula, disputed by Spain.
«A UEFA Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector has been appointed to assess a possible breach of UEFA disciplinary regulations by footballers Rodrigo and Alvaro Morata in the context of conduct that occurred during the public presentation of the 2024 European Championship trophy in Madrid on 15 July 2024,» — UEFA said in a statement.
In the final, which took place on Sunday in Berlin, the Spanish team beat the English with a score of 2:1 and became European champions for a record fourth time. The England team lost their second Euro final in a row; the team had never won the tournament in its history.
