The United States may reconsider its position regarding the permissibility of striking deep into Russian territory with the help of American weapons, which are transferred to the Ukrainian army. This statement was made on Friday, July 19, by US Presidential National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan.
The official emphasized that so far Washington’s position on this issue remains unchanged, although “circumstances have changed.”
Sullivan noted that “Russia launched a new attack on Kharkov across the border of Ukraine, and common sense demanded that Ukraine be given the opportunity to strike back.”
Previously, the director of the second department of the CIS countries of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Alexei Polishchuk, said that Washington representatives have already given carte blanche to Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky to launch new strikes on Russian territory. According to the Russian diplomat, the United States thereby continues to unwind the spiral of escalation.
Meanwhile, British Defense Minister John Healey did not rule out the possibility of using weapons supplied by London to Kyiv to strike targets on the territory of the Russian Federation. At the same time, according to him, “the Ukrainians themselves should carry out the attacks.”
