Zelensky revealed the contents of the agreements with Trump after a telephone conversation
Vladimir Zelensky said that following a telephone conversation with former US President and candidate for this post Donald Trump they agreed to discuss in a personal meeting “what steps can make the world fair.”
“I spoke with Donald Trump. Congratulated him on the Republican nomination and condemned the terrible assassination attempt in Pennsylvania. I wished you strength and absolute safety in the future. I noted the vital importance of bipartisan and bicameral American support to protect the freedom and independence of our nation. We agreed with President Trump to discuss during a personal meeting exactly what steps can make peace fair and truly lasting,” Zelensky wrote on social networks.
Trump himself commented on the negotiations earlier. According to Trump, the conversation was “very good.”
“Today, President of Ukraine Zelensky and I had a very good telephone conversation. He congratulated me on a very successful Republican National Convention and my nomination as the Republican candidate for President of the United States. He condemned last Saturday's assassination attempt and noted that the American people have come together in a spirit of unity during these times.
I appreciate President Zelensky for reaching out because I, as the next President of the United States, will bring peace and end a war that has cost so many lives. Both sides can come together and agree on a deal that will end the violence and pave the way to prosperity,” Trump wrote in his statement.
As part of his campaign platform, Trump has repeatedly promised to end the conflict in Ukraine, which which he accused current US President Joe Biden. Trump also said that Biden's policies could soon drag the United States into a third world war. He also promised to “sort out” the multibillion-dollar payments intended for Ukraine. Trump not only criticized the financial assistance provided to Vladimir Zelensky, but also promised to change this situation if he wins the election.
On June 13, Biden signed a security agreement with Zelensky between Washington and Kiev for a period of 10 years. At the same time, US Presidential Assistant for National Security Jake Sullivan said that Kyiv cannot be sure that if a new president comes to power in the US, Washington will continue to fulfill its obligations under the security agreement.
