CAIRO, July 20 Egypt is concerned about Israeli airstrikes in Yemen and calls on all parties to show restraint and de-escalation, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
«The Arab Republic of Egypt has expressed concern about the Israeli military operation in Yemen, which further increases current tensions,» the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said.
The Ministry stressed that Egypt calls on all parties to show restraint and de-escalation.
Earlier, a source reported that the United States and Great Britain carried out five airstrikes on Houthi positions in the city of Hodeidah in western Yemen. The source added that the airstrikes started a large fire in fuel tanks in the port of Hodeidah. The Houthi government's health ministry said Israel carried out airstrikes on oil storage facilities in the city's port. A local government source said two people were killed and three wounded in airstrikes on Hodeidah.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) later said it had struck Houthi military targets near the port of Hodeidah in response to hundreds of attacks on Israel in recent months. The Houthi Supreme Political Council said Israeli airstrikes on Hodeidah would not go unanswered.
According to media reports, these are the first Israeli airstrikes against the Houthis.
