In Zvenigorod, Moscow region, a man used a sledgehammer to remove the head from a bust of Joseph Stalin. The video was published by the telegram channels “Caution, News” and “Zvenigorod”.
The video is accompanied by loud laughter and words that are impossible to understand. It is difficult to determine who exactly speaks the lines—the man with the sledgehammer or other people nearby. «Caution News» also reports damage to a nearby bust of Vladimir Lenin. Judging by the photographs, part of his chin was broken off.
According to the authors of Zvenigorod, the man who hit the monuments with a sledgehammer has already been detained. There is no official confirmation of this information yet.
A bust of Stalin was installed in Zvenigorod in the summer of 2023 without permission from the authorities. Despite protests from local activists, city authorities refuse to dismantle the sculpture. In March 2024, in the signature “Stalin” under the bust, the letter “t” was changed to “r” in black paint.
