Capital sentence imposed in Belarus in relation to German citizen Rico Krieger, came into force. This was reported by SB. Belarus Today on Monday, July 22.
According to the publication, Krieger, who was sentenced to death, did not exercise his right to appeal the verdict. The reason why he did not appeal the verdict is unknown.
After the start of the SVO, Krieger ended up in the so-called Kastus Kalinouski regiment, a unit of Belarusian mercenaries fighting against Russia in Ukraine. The German was convicted of participation in an extremist group, sabotage, mercenary activity, an act of terrorism and a number of other counts.
At the same time, Western media claim that Krieger was an employee of the Red Cross and did not take part in the battles in Ukraine. According to his LinkedIn profile, he worked as an emergency medical technician for the German Red Cross and as an armed security officer at the US Embassy in Berlin.
Belarusian Foreign Ministry spokesman Anatoly Glaz said that Belarusian diplomats are holding consultations on the issue of mercenary from Germany, sentenced to death. According to the diplomat, Minsk offered concrete solutions to the German side. However, Glaz did not specify what exactly is meant by this.
