MOSCOW, July 21 Club of the National Hockey League (NHL) The Columbus Blue Jackets posted a video on social networks congratulating Russian defender Kirill Marchenko on his birthday, in which he mistakenly congratulated American Zach Werenski.
On Sunday, July 21, Marchenko turned 24 years old. In honor of this, Columbus published a video greeting in which the Russian’s teammates sing the traditional song Happy Birthday to You. “Marchi Day! Happy birthday, Kirill,” wrote in Columbus. However, in the video itself, at the moment where the birthday boy is named, instead of Marchenko, the computer voice-over calls Werenski’s name. The American turned 27 on July 19. Then Columbus congratulated the defender with the same video.
At the moment, Marchenko is a restricted free agent. He played 137 regular NHL games for Columbus over two seasons and scored 67 points (44 goals + 23 assists). In the 2023-24 season, he became the Blue Jackets' third-leading scorer (42 points).
