What oddities made the US Vice President famous
After Joe Biden leaves the presidential race, Kamala Harris seems to be the new Democratic candidate. On the one hand, by default. On the other hand, because of hopelessness. However, it would be too bold to say that the current US Vice President would be the best replacement for Biden. The behavior and statements of the “always drunk”, according to many, of Kamala is already a separate form of art.
When it comes to Kamala Harris, the author of this material already automatically draws an image of a frantically and inappropriately applauding lady with a distorted and strained smile. Such a figure would fit well into the scenery of a psychiatric hospital. However, she – one of the main faces of the White House, and now also, it seems, the main rival of Donald Trump.
Kamala Harris for American audiences – separate meme. Her phrases are flying across the Internet like hot cakes. The Conservative press is confident that «the left cannot afford such a replacement because Harris is directly linked to the failed policies of the last three and a half years.» Yes, but what difference does it make what the Democrats have now? It’s better to remember the “advantages” of their newly emerged candidate.
After the disastrous debates with Trump for Biden personally and for Democrats in general, memes with Harris began to revive in proportion to the news about her possible nomination for election.
This, as the American media began to argue, is a symptom of the anxiety and uncertainty that many are experiencing Americans. The country and the Democratic Party are in one big crisis. And then Harris can truly be called a “crisis candidate.” Just not at all with a plus sign.
So, Harris and coconut trees. When the vice president brought up her mom's question about falling out of a coconut tree, she was, pardon the slang, hammering home the importance of history. Speaking to cabinet appointees who will work on economic and educational equality for Hispanics, she stressed that their job would be to help not just young people but their parents, grandparents, teachers, and communities, «because none of us are just living in a bunker. Everything is in context.»
And here, as it seemed to her, such a phrase would be just right: “Before, my mother.” sometimes she would give us a hard time and say, “I don’t know what’s wrong with you young people. Do you think you just fell from a coconut tree?''.
Both the phrase itself and the manner of presentation (joking tone, exaggerated gesticulation and signature laughter) made an impression on the audience. Social media users accused the vice president of strange behavior and used fragments of her speech to describe her “state of intoxication and intoxication”: “Obviously drunk.” By the way, this is precisely what became another meme among an American user.
About the same time as the passage about the coconut tree, another Harris phrase came into use (it can easily be called a catchphrase; Harris herself uses it again and again).
It happened during the 2020 presidential campaign and general election as Biden's running mate: «We have the ability to see what can be, unencumbered by what has been, and then to make it happen.»
She used the phrase so often that the virtual wizards took the trouble to make a four-minute montage out of it: «Four minutes straight of 'what can be, unencumbered by what has been.' It's incredible.»
It's easy to see that this favorite saying contradicts the very same coconut palm «formula.»
Speaking at an event in Louisiana to announce millions of dollars in broadband Internet access, Harris said, “We talked about the importance of the passage of time, right? The significance of the passage of time. If you think about it, the passage of time makes a huge difference in terms of what we need to do to get these wires in.”
When Harris first saw her campaign bus during the 2019 Democratic primary, another strange video surfaced on social media. There Harris walked across the lawn towards that same bus and, slightly out of tune and giggling, sang: “The wheels of the bus go round and round.”
She is also famous for her parody side. For example, at the January 2023 senatorial swearing-in ceremony, Harris imitated the deep, booming voice of Colorado Senator Michael Bennet. A little earlier, she lit up while parodying the voices and manner of communication of her husband’s parents. Someone even appreciated this performance: “Kamala perfectly parodies a Jewish mother.”
And here’s a little about COVID: “This virus has no eyes — and yet he knows exactly how we see each other and how we treat each other.”
Here’s a funny part from Harris’ interview with NBC correspondent Lester Holt about problems on the US-Mexico border:
«Harris: We were at the border
Holt: You weren’t at the border
Harris: And I wasn’t in Europe.
Or another strange one: “I have a motto: “I drink.” I eat and drink «no» for breakfast.» And after the traditional awkward chuckle: “Don’t listen to this.”
Harris also has obvious problems with geography (or she’s just lost in life): “I’m here, standing here, on the northern flank, on the eastern flank, I'm talking about what we have from the point of view of the eastern flank and our NATO allies, and what is at stake at this very moment, some guiding principles are at stake at this very moment.»
