MOSCOW, July 22 Grapes in Russia will begin to be grown in the more northern territories of the country due to extreme heat, if it becomes established as the temperature norm, however, a “conflict” may arise there «with other agricultural crops, said Vladimir Gorchakov, head of the ACRA Sustainable Development Risk Assessment Group.
He noted that aggregated studies based on accumulated data and work on individual regions of the world show that by the end of the century, up to 90% of traditional wine-producing regions will disappear or be reformatted — this applies primarily to the lowland or coastal regions of southern France, northern Spain, southern Italy, California and Australia. 
By According to Gorchakov, this is due to more frequent and prolonged heat waves, changes in humidity parameters, the temperature cycle within the year and changes in the frequency and duration of sunny days.
“Actually, in the south of Russia the same thing is happening. The “anomaly” of the heat is determined relative to previous years, accordingly, as data accumulates (horizon from 10-20 years and beyond), it will be possible to talk about the transition of this temperature and humidity regime to the “new normal” state “There will be a “shift” of zones favorable for growing grapes to more northern regions. Another thing is that the investment cycle in this industry is long, and in these territories a “conflict” with other agricultural crops for land resources may arise,” the expert said.
At the same time, he believes that grape producers will need financial and organizational resources for additional irrigation, early harvesting and preservation of the crop, but the exact amount of costs can only be assessed over a two-three year horizon.
