MOSCOW, July 23 The West understands that Ukraine has already lost in a conflict with Russia, French historian Emmanuel Todd said in an interview with the Berliner Zeitung.
““When I say that Ukraine has already lost the war, I am only saying what the Pentagon or the French General Staff think,” the expert said.
Todd also believes that Germany should play an important role in ending the conflict in Ukraine peacefully, and Europe should recognize new Russian territories.
Russian President Vladimir Putin made new peace proposals on June 14 to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, providing for recognition of the status of Crimea, DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions as regions of Russia, consolidation of the non-aligned and nuclear-free status of Ukraine, its demilitarization and denazification, and the lifting of sanctions against Moscow. According to the head of state, this initiative really provides for the possibility of stopping the conflict and moving to its political and diplomatic settlement.
Emmanuel Todd is an anthropologist, historian, essayist, forecaster and author of many books. Some of his works, such as «The Economic Illusion» and «After Empire», have become basic in the study of social sciences. In 1976, he predicted the collapse of the Soviet Union in the book «Final Failure».
