Updates from the BMW M Performance Parts catalog will help slightly improve the highly controversial design of the seventh generation BMW M5 sedan.
The premiere of the “seventh” BMW M5 took place last month, the public and the press greeted it coolly, criticizing it for its lurid visually heavy appearance, which cannot be saved even by the large standard wheels (20-inch on the front axle, 21-inch on the rear) and huge by sports car standards curb weight — 2435 kg! This is the heaviest BMW M5 in history, in weight it exceeds the large frame SUV Chevrolet Tahoe in the basic configuration, which everyone has already laughed at.

The excess weight of the new BMW M5 is mainly due to the plug-in hybrid power plant based on a 4.4-liter V8 petrol engine; its maximum combined output is 727 hp. and 1000 Nm, but it is available, of course, only with a charged traction battery with a capacity of 22.1 kWh (of which 18.6 kWh is available to the consumer). On electric power, the M5 can travel up to 69 km on the WLTP cycle.

If the battery is discharged, then only the V8 engine will have to drag the 2.5-ton carcass, the maximum power of which, with the change of generations, for some reason decreased from 600 to 585 hp. (the previous generation BMW M5 CS had 635 hp). The new BMW M5 with a charged battery accelerates to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds (0.1 second slower than its predecessor), and the top speed with the optional M Driver’s Package is 305 km/h. The new BMW M5 in Germany costs from 144,000 euros.

Even restyling is unlikely to radically improve the appearance of the “seventh” BMW M5, but freshly prepared updates from the BMW M Performance Parts catalog can make it a little more digestible. In particular, there you can find an alternative aerodynamic carbon fiber body kit with a two-piece front splitter, a more developed rear diffuser, a new spoiler on the trunk lid, extended sills, new mirror housings and a new fin for the satellite dish on the roof.

Also in the BMW M Performance catalog for the new M5 there are new exhaust tips made of carbon and titanium, wear-resistant decorative stickers in Frozen Black for the sidewalls, a new design of wheels, a carbon fiber fuel filler cap, new branded floor mats with contrasting stitching, branded tire covers, an elegant leather case for the key and other nice little things.

We will add that later the new BMW M5 will also be offered in a station wagon body (Touring), and then, probably, we can expect a more powerful versions of the M5 Competition and M5 CS.
