French President Emmanuel Macron said on Tuesday , July 23, that he does not plan to appoint a new head of government and change the cabinet until at least mid-August, when the Olympic Games in Paris end.
As Macron explained, it was the government that prepared the Olympic Games 2024 — “our responsibility is , so that they go well,” and therefore “I choose stability, this government will continue to deal with current issues.”
Replacing the Prime Minister and appointing a new government at this time would create chaos, the French president emphasized. He also assured that he intends to lead France until the end of his presidential term, and there will be no talk of a new dissolution of the National Assembly if the political forces in the country can agree.
On July 16, Macron accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Gabriel Attal and his government, although all ministers will continue to perform their functions until the appointment of a new cabinet.
Meanwhile, the bloc of leftist parties “New Popular Front”, which won the elections to the National Assembly of France, came to an agreement on a single candidate for post of head of government. The New Popular Front suggested that Macron appoint as Prime Minister Lucy Kastetz, who works in the Ministry of Finance in the anti-money laundering department.
