BRATISLAVA, July 24 The Ministry of Economy of Slovakia reported that it is taking measures to ensure that oil supplies to the Russian company Lukoil, stopped by Ukraine, are resumed.
The Ministry of Economy of Slovakia confirmed that the republic stopped receiving oil from Lukoil due to Ukraine stopping its transit through its territory. The department noted that the Lukoil company was included in the sanctions list in Ukraine. The ministry stated that the Slovnaft refinery is supplied with Russian oil from another supplier, but the department is discussing the current situation with the Ukrainian side.
«We consider the restriction of oil supplies from the Ukrainian side to be a violation of international agreements. Moreover, some of the oil products from this oil are also exported to Ukraine, so this state (of affairs — ed.), in our opinion, is not in the interests of Ukraine. Our goal is to take all necessary steps to ensure that oil supplies to the Slovnaft refinery are resumed,» the SITA publication quotes the ministry's statement.
The ministry noted that for now Slovakia's energy security is not threatened, but if the problem is not promptly resolved, commercial supplies of oil products may be restricted, which will affect not only Slovakia, but also the Czech Republic or Ukraine.
Earlier, Slovak President Peter Pellegrini said that Slovakia could take retaliatory measures if Ukraine does not resolve the issue of oil transit from Russia.
