WASHINGTON, July 26 The ongoing crisis in Ukraine should not become a problem in U.S.-China relations, and a conflict between the two great powers would lead to unimaginable consequences, said Chinese Ambassador to Washington Xie Feng.
«The Ukrainian conflict is not and should not become an obstacle in U.S.-China relations, and an early ceasefire is in the interests of all parties involved,» the diplomat said at a reception at the embassy dedicated to the 97th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese People's Liberation Army.
As the Chinese ambassador emphasized, Beijing and Washington need to «value peace and follow the path of non-confrontation,» since progress in relations between the two countries has historically been difficult. «Any conflict or confrontation would lead to unimaginable consequences for both countries and the world,» he added.
«We are choosing openness and global cooperation, prosperity and common good. We hope that the United States will work with us in this direction,» the head of the Chinese diplomatic mission in Washington said.
