
GORNO-ALTAISK, July 25 Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin wished acting head of the Altai Republic Andrei Turchak success in the upcoming regional elections in September.
Turchak became acting head of the Altai Republic in early June, and before that he held the post of first vice-speaker of the Federation Council, secretary of the general council of the United Russia party. He was governor of the Pskov region in 2009-2017.
«Your experience as a governor, I am sure, will help you cope with the tasks that you face here. I would like to wish you success in the upcoming elections on my own behalf,» Mishustin said during a meeting with Turchak, which took place as part of the prime minister's trip to Gorno-Altaisk.
The head of the Cabinet also thanked him for their joint work on the United Russia line, noting that he had always been attentive to the needs of the regions. Mishustin added that the initiatives adopted with the participation of Turchak mainly concerned the life of the regions.
«I am confident that both your experience and focus on specific results will bear fruit,» he addressed the head of the republic.
Turchak, for his part, thanked the Prime Minister for the work of government members in the region.
«A month and a half has passed since my appointment, and Deputy Prime Minister Marat Shakirzyanovich Khusnullin, on your instructions, Minister of Science and Higher Education Valery Falkov, and Minister of Transport Roman Starovoit have already visited the republic. As a result of their visits, important decisions were made for the region and for the successful development of the republic,» he said.
The acting head of the region added that after his appointment, he himself met with residents of different districts of Gorny Altai.
«I myself did not sit still in my office, I traveled all over the republic, visited all our districts, municipalities. In each district I held meetings with people. There are a lot of questions,» Turchak said.
