The head of the first department for the investigation of especially important cases of the main department of the Investigative Committee for St. Petersburg, Yuri Yashkov, in an interview with Fontanka, spoke about prisoners who returned from the war in Ukraine.
When asked by a journalist what to do with people who were pardoned for participating in the war and are committing crimes again, Yashkov replied that «there hasn't been much of that in St. Petersburg yet.» He recalled the murder in the restaurant «Chabrets» — on March 18, a prisoner who returned from the war shot an acquaintance there and continued eating.
«In general, we know who is getting out, famous killers are already driving around the city, calling us back, promising not to be naughty anymore. But these are the ones with whom we had contact, who cooperated. Not all those released do this. I try to keep an eye on some odious comrades, about whom I know that they are definitely dangerous,» Yashkov said.
One of them, according to him, now works as a taxi driver. «To be honest, I'm scared for the clients. I sent his photos to all the detectives. I don't believe that he has reformed and won't do something. This type of person is prone to violence,» the investigator explained.
When asked how many such people there are in the city, Yashkov replied: «I think there are enough of them.» He emphasized that he personally knows and can clearly name only two people who, in his opinion, «will not hold out.»
