EKATERINBURG, July 27 Residents of the village of Kiolim in the Chelyabinsk region, which was flooded after a dam broke, have begun to return to their homes, the head of the region, Alexei Teksler, told reporters.
«Yesterday the dam of the Kiolim reservoir washed away. The water just passed through Kiolim, 35 people were evacuated to Karabash, to a temporary accommodation point. Some went to their relatives. Food, water — everything is provided. Now I am working directly on site. I met with residents, they are also returning, inspecting their homes,» the governor said.
According to him, specialists from the Ministry of Social Relations of the Chelyabinsk Region are communicating with families whose houses were damaged by the elements, and then a commission will assess the damage.
On Friday, the dam at the Kialimskoye Reservoir in the Chelyabinsk Region burst due to heavy rainfall, and a state of emergency was declared in the Karabash District. One village, Kiolim, was flooded, and the water level remained at a height of one meter. Three more villages were under threat of flooding — Mukhametovo, Baydashevo, Karasevo, and they were preemptively evacuated.
On Saturday, the water returned to the riverbed, and Kiolim was completely free of water. Meanwhile, due to flooding of garden plots, evacuation began in SNT in Sosnovsky district.
