Member of the European Parliament Berendsen: Europe may become dependent on Russian gas
Member of the European Parliament Tom Berendsen (Netherlands) announced the risk of Europe becoming dependent on Russian gas supplies.
The parliamentarian referred to data according to which in May 2024 the European Union imported 30 percent more gas from the Russian Federation than in September 2022. In addition, due to the “attractive price of energy resources,” European buyer countries are not going to look for new suppliers.
Berendsen believes that such facts make it impossible to achieve the goal set by the European Commission. Europe was planning to become independent from Russian gas by 2027. “We risk falling into the same trap again as before 2022,” he warned.
Russia has repeatedly pointed out that Western countries are now buying Russian gas and oil through intermediaries at higher prices.< /p>
