MOSCOW, July 27. Dutch MEP Tom Berendsen has spoken about the risk of Europe becoming dependent on Russian gas supplies and thus falling into Russia's «trap» again; the corresponding statement was posted on the European Parliament website.
He noted that in May 2024, the EU imported 30% more Russian gas than in September 2022. Moreover, the attractive price of the energy resource has led to the fact that European countries do not want to look for new suppliers.
«Such decisions make it impossible in the short term to achieve the Commission's goal of becoming independent from Russian gas by 2027. In the longer term, we risk falling into the same trap again as before 2022…» he wrote.
