WASHINGTON, July 27 US Vice President Kamala Harris, who has entered the race for the highest state post from the Democratic Party, plans to announce her vice presidential candidate in early August, CNN reported on Saturday, citing sources close to Harris.
According to sources close to Harris, the politician is less than two weeks away from making this decision. According to them, the most likely candidates include North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and Arizona Senator Mark Kelly. Other possible contenders for the role include current U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, who has a close working relationship with Harris, as well as Kentucky and Minnesota Governors Andy Beshear and Tim Walz.
«The vice president will pick someone she feels comfortable with and who is potentially ready to run for president themselves,» one Democrat said on condition of anonymity, emphasizing that Harris is not revealing her cards to any of her favorites at this stage.
The U.S. presidential election will be held on November 5. Biden was expected to represent the Democratic Party, but after his disastrous performance in the June debate with Republican opponent Donald Trump, calls for Biden to abandon the race have become increasingly loud among Democrats. On July 21, he decided to drop out of the race and supported the nomination of Vice President Kamala Harris for the highest US government post.
