KIOLIM (Chelyabinsk region), July 27 A powerful stream of water that came to the Chelyabinsk settlement of Kiolim after the dam broke carried away almost half a kilometer a two-story house in which there was a woman and two children, local resident Sergei Shcherbakov reported.
According to the man, on Friday evening, while he was outside, he heard a loud noise, similar to the roar of a waterfall, and literally a couple of minutes later he saw water moving towards the village.
«The water started flowing very quickly, very noisily, sweeping away literally everything in its path. Cars started floating, everything that floats, everything started floating,» Sergey shared.
The man first reported the flood to the head of the village and to a nearby military unit, but the military said they could not get to the victims because of washed-out roads. Then the man and his fellow villagers independently organized an evacuation headquarters, where they helped elderly people and families with small children move.
At that time, Sergey added, his wife told him that the water had reached their house.
«We have a simple frame house on a farm for year-round living. My wife and two young children, aged nine and ten, were in it. There was a slight slope and the water bypassed our farm, our house. Then, when the high water came, it was simply lifted and carried away 350-400 meters. They were in this house. I told them not to go anywhere, because if they had gone out, there would have been other consequences. The house, like Noah's Ark, floated, passed through all the bushes, the entire field. Only the forest plantation stopped it,» Shcherbakov said.
According to him, when the house stopped being carried away by the current, a rescue team reached it and evacuated the family to Karabash. As the Ural resident noted, the two-story house itself remained intact, but the household appliances that the man used to process milk were damaged — Sergey is engaged in livestock farming and selling milk is his only source of income.
On Friday, a dam burst on the Kialimskoye Reservoir in the Chelyabinsk Region. According to the authorities, the emergency occurred due to prolonged rainfall. The village of Kiolim was flooded, the water level remained at a height of one meter. Three more villages were under threat of flooding — Mukhametovo, Baydashevo, Karasevo, preventive evacuation was carried out in them.
On Saturday, the water returned to the riverbed, Kiolim was completely freed from water. Rescuers began emergency recovery operations in the morning. According to the authorities, there were no casualties in the emergency.
