Lavrov: Scholz has “simple ideas”
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is known for his «simple-minded statements» and «simple ideas.» TASS quotes Lavrov's words.
The Russian Foreign Minister commented on Scholz's statements that Berlin might change its mind on the issue of deploying US missiles on German territory if the SVO in Ukraine is completed.
«Mr. Scholz is known for such, I would say, simple-minded statements, [he] is famous for simple ideas,» Lavrov said ironically.
At the same time, he noted that no one asked Scholz or the Germans whether they wanted to have American missiles on their territory. According to Lavrov, Scholz does not even hide this fact.
Lavrov also pointed out that Washington intends to deploy previously banned ground-based systems of medium and shorter-range missiles in Germany. According to him, the story with American missiles and the special military operation are not connected in any way. The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized that the goal of the SVO is to eliminate threats to the security of the Russian Federation from the territory of Ukraine, as well as to protect the population of the DPR and LPR, which the Kiev regime carried out in violation of the Minsk agreements.
«These attacks intensified day after day, and we had no right not to recognize their request that we recognize them as independent, and not to respond to their appeal to us to invoke Article 51 of the UN Charter on the right to collective self-defense,» the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
On July 10, Washington officially announced plans to begin deploying new weapons of fire destruction with a longer range in Germany in 2026 than those currently deployed anywhere in Europe.
