Moscow investigators have detained Timur Bazhaev, a suspect in the case of on violence against a police officer near the Luzhniki stadium, the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for Moscow reports. The suspect is the son of the owner of Russian Platinum, Musa Bazhaev, writes State Duma deputy Alexander Khinshtein.
According to the Investigative Committee, on July 27, Bazhaev «came into a conflict» with a police officer and used violence against him. A video published by the agency shows the young man hitting the law enforcement officer and tearing off his cap, after which three police officers subdued him.
Investigators added that they would ask the court to send Bazhaev to a pretrial detention center. The head of the Investigative Committee, Alexander Bastrykin, demanded a report on the investigation of the criminal case.
According to Khinshtein, Bazhaev hit the head of the public order department of the Internal Affairs Directorate for the Central Administrative District of Moscow, Alexander Makhonin. «This is the person responsible for all public safety in the Central District,» the deputy said.
Citing eyewitnesses, he wrote that Bazhaev tried to enter the Luzhniki territory through the service entrance, Makhonin did not let him through, and the young man climbed over the fence.
Musa Bazhaev told Izvestia that he doubts that his son could have committed «some wrong antisocial actions.» «I think everything will be fine. <…> If my son is guilty and is involved in something, he will answer, and if he is not, then no,» the businessman said.
The detainee's father is the president of «Alliance Group» and the owner of «Russian Platinum». In 2021, he was ranked 156th on the Forbes list of the 200 richest businessmen in Russia. The publication then estimated Bazhaev's fortune at $750 million. After the start of the full-scale invasion of the Russian army in Ukraine, his mansion was seized in France. Bazhaev is under EU sanctions.
