MOSCOW, July 29 Argentina, Peru and Costa Rica have refused to recognize the victory of the current President of Venezuela Nicolas Maduro in the elections.
«The data show the victory of the opposition <…> Argentina does not recognize fraud and hopes that the armed forces will defend democracy and the will of the people,» wrote Argentine leader Javier Miley on the social network X.
Moreover, he made this statement even before the official announcement of the results of the vote in Venezuela.
«I categorically condemn the combination of violations aimed at fraud on the part of the Venezuelan government. Peru will not accept violations against the popular will of the Venezuelans,» says the post of the head of the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Javier González-Olaechea.
The government of Costa Rica, in turn, published a statement by President Rodrigo Chávez, which says that the authorities of the republic categorically reject the proclamation of Nicolas Maduro as president of Venezuela. At the same time, they expressed their intention to work with «the democratic governments of the continent» and international bodies to «achieve respect for the sacred will of the Venezuelan people.»
The presidential elections in Venezuela took place on July 28. Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guatemala, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, the Dominican Republic and Uruguay issued a statement demanding a transparent vote count under the supervision of observers. The Venezuelan government regarded this as interference in the elections and the people's right to self-determination.
After 80 percent of the protocols were processed, Maduro won the elections, gaining 51.2 percent of the votes.
