Russia and Belarus to sign agreement on creation of electricity market

MOSCOW, July 29 Russia and Belarus will create a unified electricity market, the corresponding order was signed by Vladimir Putin, the document was published on the website of legal acts.
«Accept the proposal of the Government of the Russian Federation to sign an agreement between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus on the formation of a unified electricity market of the Union State,» the order says.

The Belarusian Ministry of Energy reported in early June that Moscow and Minsk would sign an agreement on the formation of a unified electricity market in 2024. The energy ministers of the two countries, Sergei Tsivilev and Viktor Karankevich, initialed the action plans.
As Karankevich reported, at this stage of the creation of the common market, electricity trade will be organized between authorized companies. The second stage provides for deeper integration with an expansion of the number of participants and the organization of a single technological management process.
In the future, the unified electricity market of the Union State will be synchronized with the work of the common market of the Eurasian Economic Union.
The decision is aimed at creating an equal competitive environment that will ensure a variety of price offers for consumers, the Belarusian minister noted. In addition, incentives will appear for the renewal and development of generating capacities, attracting additional investments to the industry.
