MOSCOW, July 29 Russian cosmonaut Denis Matveyev has completed his work in the detachment, but will continue to work at the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center (CTC), the press service of Roscosmos told journalists.
“Twenty On July 9, 2024, Hero of Russia, Russian pilot-cosmonaut Denis Matveyev completed his work in the Roscosmos cosmonaut detachment. Denis Vladimirovich will continue his work at the Cosmonaut Training Center, training cosmonauts,» the statement said.
Denis Matveyev is the 126th cosmonaut of the Russian Federation. He was enlisted in the cosmonaut corps in 2010. He completed one space flight, which lasted from March 18 to September 29, 2022. During this time, Matveyev went into open space four times, where he spent a total of 26 hours and 8 minutes.
«The Center's management, colleagues in the detachment, and the Cosmonaut Training Center employees thank Denis Matveyev for his significant contribution to domestic manned cosmonautics, for his many years of work at the Center, and are confident that he will be able to apply his experience as a mentor to cosmonauts preparing for new flights,» Roscosmos added.
The reasons why the cosmonaut left the team are not given.
Before joining the cosmonaut team, Matveyev had already worked at the Cosmonaut Training Center. First as a junior research fellow, and then as a leading engineer in the department.
Matveyev's colleagues on the Soyuz MS-21 crew were Oleg Artemyev (for him, this was already his third flight) and Sergei Korsakov (like Matveyev, he was flying for the first time). All three are graduates of the Bauman Moscow State Technical University, in honor of which the launch was called the Bauman Start, and the spacecraft itself was named after the legendary Soviet designer Sergei Korolev (who was also a graduate of this university).
