«It was time to turn off TV in Muslim countries»: Zhurova on the opening of the Olympic Games

MOSCOW, July 29, Oleg Bogatov. The bacchanalia and provocations during the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Paris offended almost the entire world and at the same time pleased many Russians with the fact that the country's president Vladimir Putin adheres to traditional moral values, said Olympic champion in speed skating and State Duma deputy Svetlana Zhurova.
The event took place on July 26. Social media users around the world were outraged by the participation of transvestites and representatives of the LGBT* community in the show, especially the parody of Leonardo da Vinci's «Last Supper». The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, noted that one of the main performances of the Olympics was «LGBT* mockery of a sacred Christian subject.» On Sunday, the director of communications for the Games' organizing committee, Anne Descamps, apologized to people whose feelings may have been offended by some scenes from the opening ceremony, in particular the parody of «The Last Supper.»

«The organizers insulted almost the entire world with such a bacchanalia. I never expected that Sodom and Gomorrah would run through all the storylines. You know how many people said after that — thank God that we have Putin as president. If you want to show that this is part of your French culture, no problem. The organizers used to insert, perhaps, some provocative things into the ceremony, but in one block. It passed, and was forgotten. But when everyone returned to this topic again and again, you get the feeling: either these guys paid, or something else happened to the director or scriptwriter of the ceremony. After all, the children had to close their eyes every five minutes, and in Muslim countries it was time to turn off the TVs,» said Zhurova.

«And in other countries, on the contrary, I think it was obvious and real propaganda. After all, someone who in one way or another takes this path can say: «Wow, they show this on TV, at the Olympic Games.» Now they can apologize as much as they want, but I don't understand why this was done at all. And the apologies will practically never reach those to whom they are addressed. Such a ceremony will probably make the IOC think. Now they can say: perhaps we need to look at what the scenario might be in advance or introduce some restrictions. So as not to offend religious feelings, because there were very provocative things at the ceremony. Otherwise, the IOC will be responsible for everything, now all the arrows will fly in the direction of the IOC,» the agency's interlocutor added.
