CARACAS, June 29 The Panamanian government is recalling diplomatic personnel and suspending diplomatic relations with Venezuela until a full analysis of the protocols from the recent presidential elections is conducted, the country's president, José Roual Mulino, said.
«Out of respect for the history of Panama, out of respect for the millions of Venezuelans who have chosen our homeland to live, and out of respect for my democratic convictions, I cannot allow my silence to become complicity. The Panamanian government announces the withdrawal of diplomatic personnel from Venezuela and the suspension of diplomatic relations until a full analysis of the protocols and the computerized vote-counting system is carried out, which will allow us to know the true will of the people,» the president said during a press conference broadcast on his administration's YouTube channel.
The National Electoral Council of Venezuela, following Sunday's elections, proclaimed Nicolás Maduro the elected president of Venezuela for 2025-2031. After processing 80% of the protocols, the incumbent head of state's result was 51.2% of the vote.
For President Maduro, the upcoming presidential term is the third in a row; he has headed the Bolivarian Republic since 2013. The inauguration of the head of the executive power of Venezuela will take place on January 10, 2025, and his term of office will be six years.
